So where are they now?  Old and turned out to pasture?  No.  Some of the best years of their lives still lie ahead.  Now, the benefit of hindsight embodied in the play, provides the wisdom to know anything is still possible.  Thus the metaphor of it snowing in summer.  Armed with the love of their soul mates, they sense, “a summer wind blows down from the hills . . . my love come and see.”  Capitulation to the confines of old age be damned!  “I do believe it will snow.”
